Project Description:
Detroit Contracting Inc. (DCI) was awarded the Design/Build contract for this project that included preparing design documents and completing the construction per the requirements of the RFP. The general scope of work included enhancements and upgrades to the existing school building and modify facilities to accept new programming changes and prepare the school building to receive special educational programs.
Upgrades required architectural, mechanical and electrical enhancements. The specific work included selective demolition of architectural, mechanical and electrical components, to make room for the new construction; construction of new computer labs, special education classrooms, Career enhancement classrooms and labs. Architectural work upgrades included construction of new walls and ceilings, painting the entire school building, installing new cabinets and millwork, replacing the entire acoustical ceiling tiles and grid with new, replacing carpet flooring with new carpet flooring, VCT tile and base in specified areas, refinishing wood cabinets in science labs, install graphics at main entry, concrete restoration for underground work, CMU wall restorations, glazing replacement, installing new door, frames and hardware for new construction, and replacing all the interior and exterior door hardware including electronic security entry devices, install visual display boards, and miscellaneous accessories; electrical upgrades including replacing light fixtures, new power lines, panels and other electrical components for the new programming changes, and powering new installed equipment, fire alarm system upgrades and installing new fire alarm dialer; mechanical upgrades included toilet room upgrades as well as new underground plumbing to for construction of new bathrooms and toilet rooms including installing new fixtures, replacing drinking fountains with ADA compliant drinking fountains and miscellaneous plumbing upgrades; and modifications and upgrades to the fire sprinkler system to meet new programming changes requirements and installing new exhaust fans for toilet rooms.
