Project Description:
Detroit Contracting, Inc. (DCI), as joint venture partner of the DFT Security Team, contracted with DWSD to design, furnish, install and place in operation a complete security system at twenty one (21) water pumping stations, nine (9) sewage pumping stations and twenty four (24) additional locations throughout the DWSD water district. The project included field investigation, design, procurement and installation of a completely integrated access control system, intrusion detection, video surveillance, start-up, testing, training, and a two year maintenance contract. This project challenged DCI in three main areas. The first challenge arose with regard to working with many municipalities and cities for permitting and public awareness. This challenge has made DCI stronger in this type of project. Second, DWS-844A utilized Design/Build and design-on-site approaches to resolve challenges related to unknown conditions that were not clearly defined in the RFP. DCI had to work through these challenges to complete the project on time and with minimum cost to the owner. Finally, there were multiple sub-projects under one single contract, the challenge therein being working to keep all sites active and coordinating different subcontractors who perform similar tasks in different locations. This project had up to ten (10) sub-projects active at any given time, which required that DCI meet the challenge of managing and coordinating all of these effectively.
